Hornemansgården
Trondheim, Norway, Norway
Hornemansgården in Trondheim, Norway, began as a single-story wooden house built around 1720 by merchant Paul Dons on a plot near the central Torvet square following the devastating 1708 city fire.
Acquired in 1765 by justice councilor Henrik Horneman—a timber exporter and landowner from Flensburg—whose family expanded it into a grand rococo winter residence by 1780, complete with a large festal hall, additional wings, and elegant interiors inspired by nearby landmarks like Stiftsgården.
Passing through Horneman heirs until sold to Trondheim municipality in 1876, it served nearly a century as a police station before becoming an elderly care center in 1976, fully restored as a protected heritage site and gifted to the city's seniors for their millennium celebration in 1997, now functioning as a vibrant community activity hub hosting thousands of events annually.
