Recife, Brazil, Brazil

Instituto Ricardo Brennand, also known as Castle Brennand, is a non-profit cultural institution and museum located in the Várzea neighborhood of Recife, Brazil, 11 kilometers west of central Recife.

Founded in 2002 by Ricardo Coimbra de Almeida Brennand, a wealthy industrialist from Pernambuco who was the richest man in Northeastern Brazil, the institute houses his extraordinary private collection of art and historical artifacts. The complex features distinctive medieval castle-style architecture centered around Castelo de São João, set within a beautiful green park with gardens.

The museum contains one of the world's largest private collections of weapons and armor from different ages and countries, along with Brazilian and European paintings, sculptures, tapestries, decorative arts, furniture, and sacred art. The art collection is particularly notable for its emphasis on paintings from the Dutch occupation of Recife, including the largest private collection of works by Dutch artist Frans Post.
