The International Peace Garden, located on the border between Manitoba, Canada, and North Dakota, USA, was established in 1932 as a symbol of lasting peace and friendship between the two countries.

The idea was conceived during the Great Depression by horticulturists who wanted to create a shared garden where people from both nations could celebrate harmony rather than conflict. The garden covers approximately 9.5 square kilometers and features interconnected floral displays, a peace chapel made of limestone with stained glass, picnic areas, lakes, and walking trails that cross the international boundary.

The first structure built was a cairn of native stones from both sides, inscribed with a pledge to peace. Despite financial challenges and world conflicts, the garden has flourished as a living memorial that promotes peace through education, culture, and environmental stewardship, hosting visitors from around the world and events that emphasize goodwill and conservation.
