The Jardin de Balata near Fort-de-France, Martinique, is a private botanical garden created in 1982 by horticulturist Jean-Philippe Thoze on his grandparents' former farm.
Set on former farmland with scenic views of the Pitons du Carbet, it contains around 3,000 varieties of tropical plants from around the world, including an extensive collection of palm trees, anthuriums, begonias, heliconias, and bamboo. The garden is designed as a series of living tableaux, with vividly arranged plants that create a colorful, evolving landscape throughout the year.
