Kąty Wrocławskie
Poland, Poland
Kąty Wrocławskie is a small town in southwestern Poland's Lower Silesian Voivodeship, about 22 km southwest of Wrocław along the Bystrzyca River, serving as the seat of its urban-rural gmina in Wrocław County.
First documented in 1297-1298 when Duke Bolko I the Strict granted it town rights under Środa Śląska law to replace the nearby unsuccessful settlement of Milin, it featured a castle, hereditary vogt Gerhard by 1302, and a parish church of Saints Peter and Paul amid early crafts like milling and pottery.
Passing through Piast dukes of Świdnica, Ziębice, and Oleśnica—pledged to Wrocław bishops in 1419—it endured Hussite raids in 1428-1432 and later became bishopric property, preserving its medieval grid layout with market square, walls, and moats into modern times as an agricultural service center with early rail links and a 19th-20th century gunpowder factory.
