Kenya Agricultural Research Institute - Headquarters
Nairobi, Kenya, Kenya
The Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI) was Kenya’s premier national agricultural research institution, headquartered on Kaptagat Road in Loresho (along Waiyaki Way), Nairobi, with the address P.O. Box 57811, City Square, 00200 Nairobi. Established under the Ministry of Research, Technical Training and Technology, KARI brought together research programs covering food crops, horticultural and industrial crops, livestock and range management, land and water management, and socio-economics to promote sound agricultural research, generate and disseminate technologies, ensure food security through improved productivity, and support environmental conservation. The institute operated a network of National Agricultural Research Centres (NARCs) focused on commodity-specific research problems and Regional Research Centres (RRCs) that identified production problems across different agro-ecological zones and adapted technologies for increased farm-level production. In 2013, KARI was merged with the Coffee Research Foundation, Tea Research Foundation of Kenya, and Kenya Sugar Research Foundation to form the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO), which remains Kenya’s premier agricultural and livestock research organization and is still headquartered along Kaptagat Road in Loresho, Nairobi.
