Khorgo Mountain
Arkhangai Province, Mongolia
Khorgo Mountain, also known as Khorgo Volcano, is an extinct volcano in Arkhangai Province, central Mongolia.
Located within Khorgo-Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur National Park, it is one of the country’s most impressive volcanic landscapes, featuring a large crater, ancient lava fields, and panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The volcano last erupted around 8,000 years ago, and its lava flows helped create nearby Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake, also known as the Great White Lake.
Visitors can hike to the crater rim, explore unusual basalt rock formations, and enjoy spectacular views of the lake, mountains, and grasslands. The area is rich in wildlife and natural beauty, with forests, birds, deer, and other native animals living around the volcano. Its combination of geological significance, scenic landscapes, and outdoor recreation makes Khorgo Mountain one of the highlights of central Mongolia.
