Kingsbrae Garden
St. Andrews, Canada
Kingsbrae Garden in St. Andrews, Canada, is a 27-acre horticultural garden opened in 1998, featuring over 50,000 perennials spread across many themed sections such as knot gardens, rose gardens, gravel gardens, and a sculpture garden.
The garden also includes ponds, streams, and old-growth Acadian forest areas, complemented by a variety of animals including alpacas, goats, peacocks, and rabbits, making it a family-friendly destination with playhouses, a cedar maze, and a climbing castle. Kingsbrae was created by Lucinda and John Flemer to celebrate nature and support the local community, including the establishment of KIRA (Kingsbrae International Residency for the Arts) to foster artists.
It is recognized for blending traditional and contemporary garden styles, its vibrant colors and textures, and its role as a cultural and ecological landmark, often praised as a masterpiece and the top tourist attraction in the area. The garden also features a working Dutch windmill honoring the heritage of the previous landowners and offers a licensed café, gift shop, and art gallery for visitors.
