Lanckorona Castle
Poland, Poland
Lanckorona Castle is a Gothic ruin atop Lanckorońska Mountain in southern Poland's Lesser Poland Voivodeship, built in the mid-14th century by King Casimir the Great on a 13th-century wooden site to guard the Kraków road and Oświęcim border.
Featuring a rectangular plan with two quadrilateral corner towers, curtain walls, a northern residential wing, drawbridge, and later 18th-century bastions by Bar Confederates aided by French engineers, it passed through noble hands like Zebrzydowskis before Swedish Deluge damage in 1655 and heavy 1771-1772 sieges led to Austrian occupation, imprisonment use, and 19th-century demolition.
Today, lower tower bases and wall fragments remain freely accessible amid revitalization efforts since 2023, overlooking the picturesque village below.
