Likoma Island is the larger of two inhabited islands in Lake Malawi, located in the northern part of the lake near the Mozambique border.

Covering about 18 square kilometers, the island is an exclave of Malawi despite being surrounded by Mozambican territorial waters. It features a mix of rocky slopes, sandy beaches, and swamps, with much of the interior covered by grassland and dotted with baobab and mango trees. 

The island has a rich cultural history linked to 19th-century British missionaries, highlighted by the presence of St. Peter's Cathedral, one of the largest Anglican cathedrals in Africa. 

The local population, primarily fishermen, inhabits the island, and its clear waters and diverse fish life make it a popular spot for fishing, snorkeling, and diving. The natural environment remains largely unspoiled, offering beautiful sunsets and a peaceful atmosphere for visitors seeking both cultural and ecological experiences.
