Lilongwe Nature Sanctuary
Lilongwe, Central Region, Malawi
Lilongwe Nature Sanctuary, also known as Lilongwe Wildlife Centre, is a wildlife sanctuary located in the heart of Lilongwe, Malawi's capital in the Central Region. Established in 2007 by the Lilongwe Wildlife Trust with support from the Born Free Foundation, it serves as Malawi's only PASA-accredited sanctuary focusing on rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing injured, orphaned, and confiscated wild animals.
The sanctuary covers diverse habitats such as forests, grasslands, and wetlands and is home to a variety of wildlife including primates, antelopes, crocodiles, and numerous bird species.
It plays an important role in conservation education, wildlife welfare, and advocacy by engaging local communities and schools through environmental programs. The sanctuary also supports national efforts against illegal wildlife trade and promotes conservation justice, making it both a refuge for animals and an educational resource dedicated to preserving Malawi's biodiversity.
