Livingstonia Mission, located in Rumphi District in Malawi’s Northern Region, is a historic missionary settlement founded by missionaries from the Free Church of Scotland in 1894.

Perched high on the escarpment above Lake Malawi, it was established in its current location after earlier mission sites were abandoned because of malaria, and it grew into an important center for education, healthcare, religion, and community development. The mission is known for its distinctive red-brick buildings, historic church, old stone house museum, schools, hospital, and university.

It played a major role in promoting literacy, vocational training, medical services, and the development of the Tumbuka language in northern Malawi.
