Verified Liw Castle Armory

Liw, Poland, Poland

Liw Castle Armory is a museum within the 15th-century Gothic ruins of Liw Castle in Liw, eastern Poland, established in 1963 to showcase an extensive collection of medieval and later military artifacts.

Built by Duke Janusz I of Warsaw around 1420 on an artificial island amid the Liwiec River swamps to guard a strategic river crossing, the fortress features a compact square plan with high brick walls, a prominent multi-story gate tower serving as prison, archive, and armory, plus residential wings expanded by later rulers like Bona Sforza in the 1550s.

Ravaged by Swedish forces in the 1655 Deluge, it was partially restored post-World War II and now displays swords, armor, crossbows, firearms from the 15th-20th centuries, plus knightly tournament reenactments, paintings, and graphics in its preserved structures.
