Lochinvar National Park, located in Zambia’s Southern Province on the southern edge of the Kafue Flats, is a protected wetland area known for its rich birdlife, seasonal floodplains, and unique wildlife.

Established in 1972, the park covers about 428 square kilometers and includes lagoons, grasslands, woodlands, and marshes that support a wide variety of species. The park is especially famous for its large herds of the endemic Kafue lechwe, an antelope found only in the Kafue Flats region, as well as more than 400 recorded bird species, making it one of Africa’s outstanding birdwatching destinations.

Other wildlife includes buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, kudu, hippos, and crocodiles. Beyond its natural attractions, Lochinvar National Park contains important historical and geological sites, including the Gwisho Hot Springs and Sebanzi Hill, where evidence of ancient human settlements has been discovered. The combination of wildlife, wetlands, and cultural heritage makes the park one of Zambia’s most distinctive conservation areas.
