Łodygowice
Poland, Poland
Łodygowice is a village and gmina seat in southern Poland's Silesian Voivodeship, within Żywiec County at the foot of the Little Beskids in the Żywiec Basin, formed in the 13th century on sites of Slavic settlements destroyed by Tatar invasions.
Settled mainly by German colonists under Magdeburg law—known as Ludwigsdorf—it was a ducal village until late 13th century when Opole Prince Władysław granted it to Cistercians from Rudy near Racibórz, with first mentions of sołtys Ludwik Lisko in 1310 and parish records as Villa Lodovici by 1373.
Passed through Czech suzerainty, Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and Austrian Habsburg partition from 1772, it absorbed Vlach shepherds in the 15th-16th centuries for pastoral economy amid noble disputes, now blending historic St. Simon and Judas Thaddeus church with modern rural life.
