Lormont is a commune located just northeast of Bordeaux in the Gironde department of southwestern France, situated along the right bank of the Garonne River.

Its history dates back to ancient times with continuous habitation through the Paleolithic era, but it rose to prominence in the Middle Ages. The Château de Lormont, built around 1060, is a significant historical site where Eleanor of Aquitaine once stayed and the Black Prince lived.

The castle served as an important fortress and residence for the archbishops of Bordeaux and was a site for the 1453 negotiations ending the Hundred Years War. Today, the château is privately owned, converted into offices and a restaurant after renovation. Lormont consists of several neighborhoods including Carriet, Génicart, and Le Bourg, featuring a mix of historic houses, industrial developments, and modern urban renewal areas.

The town has cultural attractions such as the 15th-century Saint-Martin church, Saint Catherine’s Hermitage park, museums, and panoramic viewpoints overlooking the Garonne and Bordeaux. It has evolved throughout the centuries from a fishing port and market town to a thriving suburb connected by various transport links including the Pont d'Aquitaine bridge and tramway.
