Lower Zambezi National Park spans 4,092 square kilometers along Zambia's southeastern border in Lusaka Province near Chirundu, on the north bank of the Zambezi River opposite Zimbabwe's Mana Pools National Park, forming a UNESCO World Heritage Site together for their shared floodplain ecosystem.

Established in 1983 from a former presidential game reserve, it preserves pristine wilderness with miombo and mopane woodlands on higher escarpment slopes transitioning to riverine forests, acacia-dotted floodplains, and lagoons that draw massive elephant herds, buffalo, lions, leopards, wild dogs, hippos, and crocodiles, alongside over 400 bird species like fish eagles and bee-eaters. 

Accessible mainly by light aircraft or boat for exclusive canoe safaris, tigerfishing, and walking amid minimal tourism infrastructure, the park thrives on seasonal floods that sustain its biodiversity despite past poaching threats.
