Lubin is a city in southwestern Poland's Lower Silesian Voivodeship, serving as the administrative seat of Lubin County with around 72,000 residents amid the Legnica Copper Basin.
First documented as a 12th-century Piast castellan seat around an Old Polish stronghold and fieldstone church attributed to Piotr Włostowic, its "New City" was founded in the 1280s by Duke Przemko of Ścinawa through German Ostsiedlung settlers, receiving town rights circa 1295 and later hosting Piast Duke Louis I the Fair from 1348.
Thriving on cloth and linen production through the Middle Ages, it endured partitions into Prussian Silesia, Habsburg rule, and post-WWII communist resettlement before explosive growth after 1957 copper ore discoveries made KGHM Polska Miedź its economic cornerstone.
