Verified Malbrouck Castle

France, France

Malbrouck Castle, located in Manderen in northeastern France near the borders of Luxembourg and Germany, is a well-preserved 15th-century fortress originally built between 1419 and 1434 by Arnold VI of Sierck.

The castle features a quadrilateral design with four towers connected by high walls and was initially meant as a residence for the Sierck family. Its name, Malbrouck, comes from the Duke of Marlborough who occupied it during the War of the Spanish Succession in 1705. Restored and opened to the public in 1998, Malbrouck Castle is not only architecturally impressive with medieval features such as machicolations and arrow slits but also serves as a cultural center hosting art exhibitions and medieval-themed events.

Visitors can explore its towers, ramparts, and various historical exhibits while enjoying panoramic views of the Moselle Valley. The castle's rich history, architectural elegance, and vibrant cultural programming make it a significant landmark that offers a captivating glimpse into the medieval and regional history of the Lorraine area.
