Malec
Poland, Poland
Malec is a small village in southern Poland's Lesser Poland Voivodeship, within Oświęcim County and Gmina Kęty, located about 5 km northeast of Kęty, 13 km south of Oświęcim (Auschwitz), and 52 km west of Kraków.
Existing since the early 13th century in the Duchy of Oświęcim under Piast rule and later Bohemian suzerainty, it was first documented as Malyecz in 1457 during the duchy's sale to the Polish Crown by Jan IV, incorporating into Kraków Voivodeship's Silesian County until 1564.
The rural settlement endured partitions into Austrian Galicia in 1772, regained Polish independence post-WWI, and Nazi annexation during WWII before restoration, remaining a quiet agricultural community amid its historic Lesser Poland landscape.
