Located along a rugged 17-kilometre stretch of coastal cliffs, the site contains exceptionally well-preserved fossils dating from about 580 to 560 million years ago, from the Ediacaran Period. These fossils provide rare evidence of a major turning point in Earth’s history, when large multicellular organisms first appeared after billions of years of microscopic life.
