The National Museum in Kraków, known locally as Muzeum Narodowe w Krakowie (MNK), is one of Poland’s oldest and largest national museums, founded in 1879 as the first major national‑scale museum in the Polish lands when the country was still partitioned.

It is now headquartered in a large modern main building on Aleja 3 Maja, with a network of about a dozen branches across the city, including the Czartoryski Museum, the Sukiennice Gallery, Jan Matejko House, and galleries of 19th‑ and 20th‑century Polish art.

The museum’s collections span European and Polish fine art from the Middle Ages to the present, with strong holdings in decorative arts, applied arts, and military artifacts, and its main building showcases permanent exhibitions on modern Polish art and a major gallery of decorative art arranged chronologically from the early Middle Ages to Art Nouveau.

Spread over several historic and purpose‑built structures, the National Museum in Kraków functions as a central hub for Polish art and heritage, offering both long‑term displays and temporary exhibitions that draw both locals and international visitors.
