Naukot Fort
Sindh, Pakistan, Pakistan
Naukot Fort in Sindh, Pakistan, was built in 1814 by Mir Karam Ali Khan Talpur to protect the region and secure trade routes in the Thar Desert.
It is strategically located near Mithi in the Tharparkar District and known as the "Gateway to the Thar Desert." The fort is roughly square, constructed entirely of burnt bricks in mud mortar, which is uncommon in Sindhi architecture. It features nine semi-circular bastions, including two guarding the main arched entrance, which is 7 meters tall.
Inside are the remains of rooms thought to have been barracks or residential quarters, along with a courtyard that served as a royal court during the Talpur era. Though the fort has suffered some damage from rains and neglect, restoration efforts have been underway. It stands as a significant historical landmark reflecting the Talpur dynasty’s rule and their role in unifying Sindh while safeguarding the desert frontier.
