Niagara Falls, Ontario, is a vibrant city in southeastern Canada on the west bank of the Niagara River, directly opposite Niagara Falls, New York, and home to the world-famous Niagara Falls cataract, which includes the iconic 57-meter (187-foot) Horseshoe Falls that carries about nine times more water than the American Falls. Known as the “Honeymoon Capital of the World,” the city receives around 14 million visitors annually and offers attractions such as the Niagara SkyWheel, Ripley’s Believe It or Not!, Clifton Hill’s “Street of Fun,” boat tours like the Maid of the Mist, nightly fireworks, the Winter Festival of Lights, and extensive walking, hiking and cycling trails along the river and Niagara Glen. The falls, formed about 12,000 years ago by retreating glaciers, generate major hydroelectric power through the Sir Adam Beck stations and remain one of North America’s most popular natural wonders, with water eroding the cliffs backward by roughly 1 foot per year. The city, with a 2021 population of about 94,400 and 212 km² of land area, serves as an international customs port and industrial center while maintaining a friendly, small-town charm alongside big-city excitement.
