Ogród Botaniczny UMCS
Lublin, Poland
The UMCS Botanical Garden in Lublin, Poland, was founded in 1946 as part of Maria Curie-Skłodowska University. Initially located at the university campus, the garden’s permanent site in the Sławinek estate was approved in 1951, with land ownership secured in 1958. The garden spans about 13 hectares with varied terrain including loess gullies and springs, creating ideal conditions for diverse plant life.
It now hosts around 6,500 plant species arranged in specialized sections such as a rosarium, water plants area, and alpine garden. The site also features a restored 18th-century noble manor house connected to Jan Nepomucen Kościuszko, uncle of the Polish national hero Tadeusz Kościuszko. Serving both scientific research and public enjoyment, the garden offers a peaceful green space and is a popular local attraction.
