Okartowo
Poland, Poland
Okartowo is a small village in northern Poland's Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, in Pisz County within Orzysz Municipality, located on a narrow strip of land between Lake Śniardwy—the largest lake in Poland—and Lake Tyrkło.
Founded in the late 15th century near the site of a burned Teutonic Knights' watchtower and an earlier Prussian hillfort, whose mound remains visible about 2 km away offering scenic lake views, it features a historic late-18th-century Catholic church built on Teutonic castle ruins with baroque elements, polichrome interiors, and a WWI memorial.
The village supports water rescue operations as the main base of the Mazurian Rescue Service on Śniardwy, includes a yacht marina, campsites, and a railway station on the Ełk–Olsztyn line, with around 576 residents as of 2010.
