Opole Lubelskie is a small town in southeastern Poland's Lublin Voivodeship, serving as the capital of Opole Lubelskie County about 10 km east of the Vistula River and 33 km west of Lublin city center.

First mentioned in early 14th-century sources as a trading hub on the route from Lublin to Vistula crossings, it received Środa municipal rights around 1368-1400 under the Słupecki noble family who built a 15th-century stone palace later expanded into a grand Lubomirski residence by architects like Jakub Fontana.

A Reformation center in the 16th-17th centuries with diverse residents including Scottish and German craftsmen, it boasts a Baroque 17th-century Assumption of Mary church, 18th-century town hall, Piarist monastery from 1740-1758, and Poland's oldest hygienically planned extramural cemetery founded in 1772.
