The Oscar Niemeyer Museum in Curitiba, Paraná, is a striking tribute to Brazil’s most celebrated modernist architect. Inaugurated in 2002 and renamed in 2003 to honor Niemeyer, who completed the project at the age of 95, the museum is affectionately known as the “Museu do Olho” or “Eye Museum” due to the bold, eye-shaped annex that defines its silhouette.

This annex, suspended above a reflecting pool and connected to the main building by a futuristic walkway, is a sculptural marvel of reinforced concrete, glass, and steel, embodying Niemeyer’s signature use of sweeping curves and dramatic forms. The museum complex spans over 35,000 square meters, with nearly 19,000 dedicated to exhibition space, making it one of the largest art museums in Latin America.

It focuses on visual arts, architecture, and design, and its collection includes works by both Brazilian and international artists. The original building, designed in 1967 as an educational institute, was later adapted into a museum, seamlessly blending Niemeyer’s earlier architectural language with his later, more expressive style.
