Ostrężnik Castle
Poland, Poland
Ostrężnik Castle is a 14th-century Gothic ruin on a rocky 40-meter hill in Ostrężnik village, southern Poland's Silesian Voivodeship near Żarki on the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland, part of the Eagle's Nests Trail system.
Likely built early 14th century by Bishop Jan Muskata or under Casimir the Great around 1370, it guarded trade routes with an upper castle enclosed by 144m of 2.2m-thick walls housing a 30x10m residential building and 6x9m tower, plus a lower oval bailey with earth ramparts and moats.
Abandoned soon after construction due to lack of records, its dilapidated remnants of low walls, foundations, and surrounding fortifications persist amid the Ostrężnicka Cave, blending rugged terrain with medieval mystery.
