Otyń
Poland, Poland
Otyń is a small town in western Poland's Lubusz Voivodeship, Nowa Sól County, located along the Śląska Ochla River about 6 km north of Nowa Sól and 18 km southeast of Zielona Góra, with around 1,600 residents.
First mentioned in 1322-1323 during Piast colonization and granted town rights in 1329 under Duke Henryk IV Głogowski, it prospered as an open settlement without walls before becoming knightly property in the mid-15th century under families like the Rechenbergs, who rebuilt its 15th-century Gothic castle into a Renaissance residence by 1519.
The castle later served Jesuits from 1703-1721 as a monastery complex with a church after a fire, contributing to the town's historic fabric including a late-Classical 19th-century town hall on its elongated market square, though it lost urban status post-WWII until regaining it in 2018.
