The Perhentian Islands, off the Terengganu coast in northeastern Malaysia, consist mainly of Perhentian Besar and Perhentian Kecil, two jungle-covered tropical paradises renowned for their powdery white-sand beaches, turquoise shallows, and thriving coral reefs teeming with turtles, reef sharks, and colorful fish ideal for snorkeling and scuba diving.

Accessible only by speedboat from Kuala Besut after a 30-40 minute ride, these car-free islands offer a backpacker vibe on Kecil with lively Long Beach parties and rustic chalets, contrasted by Besar's upscale resorts, secluded bays like Turtle Beach, and hiking trails to windmills and hidden coves. 

Part of a protected marine park, they draw eco-tourists for jungle treks, night dives, and fresh seafood amid monsoon-free dry seasons from March to October, blending laid-back Malay village life with unspoiled South China Sea biodiversity.
