Verified Pieskowa Skala Castle

Sułoszowa, Poland, Poland

Pieskowa Skała Castle in Sułoszowa, Poland, is a stunning 14th-century Gothic fortress built by King Casimir III the Great on a limestone cliff in the Polish Jura landscape, forming part of the Eagles' Nests Trail of border strongholds protecting Kraków from invasions.

Donated in 1377 to the noble Szafraniec family—who gained full ownership in 1422 for service at Grunwald—it was transformed into an elegant Renaissance residence between 1542-1580 with arcaded courtyards, loggias, sgraffito decorations, and fortified bastions added later by the Zebrzydowskis.

Damaged during the Swedish Deluge in 1655 and subsequent fires, it was restored in the 19th-20th centuries by the Tyszkiewicz family and turned into a museum in 1928 within Ojców National Park, preserving lavish interiors, armor collections, and panoramic views amid hiking trails and local legends.
