Pinzón Island
Ecuador, Ecuador
Pinzón Island, also known as Duncan Island, is a small uninhabited island in the central part of the Galápagos archipelago, Ecuador, covering about 18 square kilometers and rising to around 458 meters at its highest point.
It has no permanent residents or visitor facilities and is mainly known for its endemic wildlife, including the Pinzón giant tortoise and a distinct species of lava lizard, as well as sea lions, Galápagos hawks, and marine iguanas. The island lies in deeper waters and is rarely visited on land, with most tourism focused on nearby snorkeling and diving trips where visitors can see sea turtles, sharks, rays, and tropical fish.
Ongoing conservation efforts, such as the long‑running Pinzón tortoise project, have helped restore the tortoise population after decades of disruption by introduced species like black rats.
