Playa Sucia
Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico
Playa Sucia, also known as La Playuela, is a stunning crescent-shaped beach located in the Municipality of Cabo Rojo on Puerto Rico's southwestern coast, within the protected Cabo Rojo National Wildlife Refuge.
Despite its name which translates to "dirty beach" (derived from the neighboring Bahia Sucia or "Dirty Bay" where debris accumulates), it is actually one of the cleanest and most pristine beaches on the island, featuring powdery white Caribbean sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters. The beach is naturally sheltered in a cove by limestone cliffs, creating calm waters perfect for swimming and snorkeling, with a protected wetland nature reserve behind it that prevents hotel development and keeps the area wild and undeveloped.
Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views, spectacular sunsets, birdwatching opportunities, and easy access to the historic Los Morillos Lighthouse perched on the cliffs nearby, though the beach has limited parking, no restrooms or food services, and no lifeguards, so bringing your own supplies and arriving early is recommended.
