Playas, officially known as General Villamil Playas, is a coastal city and canton capital in Guayas Province, Ecuador, lying on the Pacific coast about 96 kilometers from Guayaquil.

It is a popular beach destination with several long sandy beaches such as Playa General Villamil, Playa el Arenal, and Playa de Puerto Engabao, which attract both domestic and international visitors, especially during the warm “beach season” from January to April. The town’s economy centers on tourism and fishing, offering a mix of hotels and resorts alongside a busy local fishing port famous for its fresh seafood and traditional Ecuadorian dishes.
