Polska Cerekiew
Poland, Poland
Polska Cerekiew is a village in southwestern Poland's Opole Voivodeship, Namysłów County, situated along ancient trade routes from Moravia since Roman times, with its estate and defensive manor first documented in the 14th century under the Wrochen-Kotuliński family.
The current castle, rebuilt in late Renaissance style around 1617 by Fryderyk III von Oppersdorff on a U-shaped plan with three wings enclosing a courtyard, features massive vaulted arcades, a redesigned staircase, eight-sided corner towers, and a surrounding moat accessed via a southern gate bridge, following earlier 16th-century expansions by the same family.
Passing through owners like Melchior Ferdinand von Gaschin until 1823 and later the Matuschka family who renovated it in 1894, it burned in early 1945 but was stabilized in 1971 with concrete reinforcements and roofing to preserve the ruins amid a historic park.
