Providence Island is a small historic island on the Mesurado River in Monrovia, Montserrado County, Liberia.

It is widely regarded as one of the most important heritage sites in the country because it was the location where freed and formerly enslaved African Americans arriving under the American Colonization Society established one of the first successful settlements that later contributed to the founding of modern Liberia in 1822.

Located near where the Mesurado River meets the Atlantic Ocean, the island sits close to central Monrovia and is connected to the surrounding urban area by bridges. The city of Monrovia later developed around this historically significant site. Today, Providence Island is valued as a cultural and historical landmark that reflects the complex history connecting Liberia, the United States, and people of African descent.

Visitors can find historical features such as an old well, remnants of an early landing site, a long-standing cotton tree, and monuments symbolizing peace and national reconciliation. The site has been nominated for recognition by UNESCO and continues to be the focus of preservation and restoration efforts.
