Punta Sal
Tumbes Region, Peru
Punta Sal is a coastal village and beach resort in the Tumbes Region of northern Peru, located about 80–110 km southwest of the city of Tumbes along the Pacific Ocean.
It is famous for having one of the longest and most tranquil beaches on Peru’s northern coast, stretching several kilometers with white or golden sand, calm turquoise waters, and warm sea temperatures around 24–30 °C all year thanks to the nearby El Niño current.
The area is known as a relaxed, upscale beach destination with a mix of modern resorts, bungalows, and quieter local lodgings, attracting visitors who want swimming, sunbathing, and a peaceful atmosphere away from bigger party‑oriented spots.
Punta Sal also offers water activities such as kayaking, snorkeling over nearby reefs, and boat trips to see mangrove forests, dolphins, and humpback whales between June and October, while its local seafood dishes—like ceviche and fish‑based stews—add to the coastal‑region charm.
