Ramna Kali Temple, also known as Ramna Kalibari, is a historic Hindu temple in Dhaka, Bangladesh, dedicated to the goddess Kali and situated beside Suhrawardy Udyan on the southern edge of what was once the Ramna Race Course. Built during the Mughal period and later expanded, it is considered one of the oldest Hindu temples in the country and for centuries served as a major religious and cultural center for the city’s Hindu community. The original temple complex, along with the adjacent Ma Anandamayi Ashram, was violently destroyed by the Pakistani army on 27 March 1971 during the Bangladesh Liberation War, when the site became the scene of a massacre of devotees and monks. In recent years the temple has been rebuilt on the same grounds as a rebuilt Kali Mandir and ashram, symbolizing resilience and the spiritual ties between the peoples of Bangladesh and India while preserving the memory of its tragic past.
