Ruiny Zamku w Chrzelicach
Chrzelice, Poland, Poland
Ruiny Zamku w Chrzelicach, located in Chrzelice village in Opole Voivodeship, Poland, originated possibly as a wooden stronghold built by the Knights of St. John around the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries on a small dry hill amid marshy terrain.
A Gothic castle replaced it by the 14th century, featuring a tall corner tower that was later damaged and partially rebuilt, with bastions added in the 15th or early 16th century; it evolved into a Baroque residence in the 17th century under owners like the Piasts of Opole, Posadowskis, and Proskaus.
Used residentially until the 1960s, it fell into ruin after abandonment, suffering collapses from a 1977 storm, 1987 wall failure, and wartime looting, with failed private ownership attempts since 2006 leaving only outer walls, fragments of vaults, and a surrounding park today.
