Ruiny zamku w Drzewicy
Drzewica, Poland, Poland
The ruins of the castle in Drzewica, located in central Poland, represent a notable example of a late Gothic and early Renaissance residence.
Built between 1527 and 1535 on the initiative of the Archbishop of Gniezno, Maciej Drzewicki, the structure was originally designed as a rectangular fortress featuring four corner towers and defensive elements like moats.
The castle served as an impressive residence for many years, but a devastating fire in 1814 left the building in ruins, which have remained largely unrestored since that time. Because it did not undergo major modifications after the fire, it remains one of the best-preserved examples of its kind from the first half of the 16th century.
Today, the site is privately owned, and because of its technical condition, visitors are generally restricted to viewing the exterior of the ruins from the outside.
