Saint Martins Island
Bangladesh, Bangladesh
Saint Martin’s Island, in the Chittagong Division of Bangladesh, is the country’s only coral island, lying about 9 kilometers south of the Cox’s Bazar–Teknaf peninsula in the northeastern Bay of Bengal near the Myanmar border. The island is small and mostly flat, shaped like a dumbbell, with a total area that can shrink during high tide and is built on a coral base that gives it clear turquoise waters and rich underwater life. It is a key breeding ground for sea turtles and one of the best places in Bangladesh for snorkeling, with colorful coral reefs just offshore. The island has a small permanent population of a few thousand people, many of whom rely on fishing, and it attracts tens of thousands of tourists each year who come for its white‑sand beaches, low‑key stays, and views of the southernmost tip of the country.
