Saint-Maurice
France, France
Saint-Maurice is a commune in the southeastern suburbs of Paris, France, in the Val-de-Marne department of the Île-de-France region, located about 6.8 km from the city center along the Marne River.
Originally known as Charenton-Saint-Maurice until 1842, it features a rich history tied to a 6th-century Benedictine abbey that influenced the area's spiritual life, though today it's primarily a residential suburb with green spaces like Parc des Beaumonts and remnants of its abbey architecture.
In 1929, it lost territory to Paris when the Bois de Vincennes was annexed, and it's historically linked to the former Charenton lunatic asylum, now a psychiatric hospital. The town blends historical charm with modern suburban living, offering easy access to Paris via RER trains and bus routes.
