Schloss Breitenburg in Breitenburg, Germany, is a historic castle with origins dating back to 1531 when it was built by Johann Rantzau on land acquired from the Bordesholm monastery.

Over the centuries, it evolved from a fortified Renaissance residence into a grand historicist country estate through extensive renovations in the 19th century influenced by architect Johann Matthias Hansen, nephew of Christian Frederik Hansen. The castle features two wings forming an L-shaped layout around a paved courtyard, with a neo-Gothic facade, an octagonal tower, and a distinctive high gable.

Inside, notable highlights include the Hall of Mirrors, the Knights' Hall, the Thorvaldsen Gallery with works by sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen, and a valuable library.

The estate also includes an old chapel with a crypt, a wrought-iron crowned fountain in the courtyard, and a landscaped park. Schloss Breitenburg remains in the hands of the noble Rantzau family and is among the most important cultural landmarks in the Itzehoe region, open for visits by appointment.
