Sielecki Castle
Sosnowiec, Poland, Poland
Sielecki Castle in Sosnowiec, Poland, is the city's oldest surviving brick building, originally a 15th-century defensive fortification on the Czarna Przemsza River's left bank transformed around 1620 by Sebastian Minor herbu Półkozic into a Renaissance four-winged residence with corner towers, courtyard, and moat.
Owned by noble families like the Minors, Modrzewskis, and Tęgoborscy before passing to Prince Ludwik Anhalt-Koethen of Pszczyna in 1814, it burned in 1824 and was rebuilt in 1832 by Józef Heintz without the eastern gate wing or moats, retaining its defensive silhouette amid later industrial use as a mining company headquarters.
Today this three-winged Baroque-style landmark amid urban surroundings houses cultural exhibits and reflects Sosnowiec's transition from noble seat to industrial hub.
