St. Martin's Island
Bangladesh, Bangladesh
St. Martin’s Island is a small coral island in the northeastern Bay of Bengal, lying just off the southern tip of Bangladesh’s Cox’s Bazar–Teknaf peninsula near the border with Myanmar. It is Bangladesh’s only coral island, with a low, flat landmass of about 7–8 square kilometers that shrinks visibly at high tide, and it sits less than 10 kilometers from the mainland. The island is known for its white‑sanded beaches, clear turquoise water, snorkeling over nearby reefs, and as a nesting ground for sea turtles, making it a popular eco‑tourism and beach destination. Around 8,000–10,000 people live there, mostly fishermen, and visitors usually reach it by boat from Teknaf, staying for a day or two to enjoy the laid‑back island life and simple guesthouses.
