The Terracotta Army is one of the world’s most remarkable archaeological discoveries, located near Xi’an in Shaanxi Province, China.
Created more than 2,200 years ago, it consists of thousands of life-sized terracotta soldiers, horses, and chariots that were buried to guard the tomb of Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of a unified China, in the afterlife. Discovered by local farmers in 1974, the site reveals the military strength, artistic skill, and cultural beliefs of the Qin Dynasty and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.
