Verified The Arboretum & Administration Centre

Owen Sound, Canada

The Arboretum and Administration Centre in Owen Sound, Canada, is part of the Inglis Falls Conservation Area managed by the Grey Sauble Conservation Authority.

The arboretum was established starting in 1964 with the planting of both native and exotic tree species, including shelterbelts of Austrian Pine and Norway spruce along its borders. The site encompasses about 12 hectares of land purchased in the early 1960s, formerly used as farmland, now dedicated to conservation, education, and public enjoyment.

The Arboretum features the Trees of Grey-Bruce Trail with over 100 species native to Grey and Bruce counties, interpretive signage, and a wildflower meadow seeded in 2017. Volunteers oversee the nursery and trail maintenance, propagating native plants to boost local biodiversity and offering them to the public for planting.

The Administration Centre, built in 1977, supports management activities and hosts educational programs, promoting awareness of local ecology and conservation efforts. The arboretum is a valued natural resource offering scenic walking paths, native flora appreciation, and ecological restoration in a community-accessible setting.
