The Ruins of the Teutonic Castle
Bobrowniki, Poland, Poland
The Ruins of the Teutonic Castle in Bobrowniki, Poland, are remnants of a late 14th-century Gothic fortress built by the Teutonic Knights on the site of an earlier Slavic stronghold near the Vistula River in Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship.
Constructed after the Knights acquired the village in 1392—possibly extending fortifications from Duke Władysław the Hunchback's era—it served as a border outpost during Polish-Teutonic conflicts, withstanding a 1391 Polish siege but changing hands multiple times, including capture by Władysław Jagiełło in 1404 and return via the 1411 Peace of Toruń.
Expanded with outer defenses under Polish rule, it functioned as a starosty seat and prison during the Thirteen Years' War (1454-1466) before Swedish Deluge devastation in the 17th century and border shifts led to its decline into ruins by the 18th century.
