University of Saskatchewan Sculpture Garden
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, Canada
The University of Saskatchewan Sculpture Garden is a stunning open-air art collection founded in 1993 by visual arts professor Bill Epp, located in the northwest corner of the University of Saskatchewan campus near the Diefenbaker Canada Centre and Education Building in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
This hidden gem overlooks the scenic Saskatchewan River and the nearby Meewasin Trail, featuring a variety of sculptures by both local and international artists that vary widely in form and material, with many crafted from limestone to harmonize with the university's limestone campus buildings, though the collection also includes bronze and welded steel pieces.
More works were added to the garden in 1997 and 2006, and while some sculptures show signs of aging from sun and weathering, they remain well worth visiting for the unique displays and serene atmosphere. The garden is completely free and open to everyone, not just students and faculty, making it an accessible public space where visitors can stroll in Saskatoon sunshine and experience which pieces speak to them, and it can easily be reached by walking or biking along the Meewasin Trail between the University Bridge and Railway Bridge.
